An extraordinary moment unfolds as an Asiatic lion gracefully strolls along the shores of Gujarat's Junagadh, by the Arabian Sea, captivating the online world. In a viral photograph, the majestic creature observes the tranquil waves, creating a surreal scene.

From April 1, 2022, to January 31, 2023, Gujarat documented 89 natural and 11 unnatural deaths among its Asiatic lion population. These numbers account for a significant share, approximately 15 percent, of the total lion count, which stood at 674 according to the 2020 census.

Indian Forest Service officer Parveen Kaswan shared this mesmerizing image on his social media, likening it to the enchanting world of Narnia. He remarked, "When #Narnia looks real. A lion king captured enjoying tides of the Arabian Sea on Gujarat coast. Courtesy: CCF, Junagadh."

Known for his wildlife conservation efforts, Kaswan also shared a research paper on Asiatic lions, shedding light on their habitat distribution along the coastline.

A study titled "Living on the sea-coast: ranging and habitat distribution of Asiatic lions" by Mohan Ram and others reveals that these lions, primarily inhabiting Gir National Park, are increasingly being spotted in Gujarat's coastal regions.

The Asiatic lions are an exclusive treasure of the Gir National Forest in Gujarat, with current estimated numbers ranging from 523 to 650.
